Latest News for Rugby Town Junior Football Club

You may have seen some of the letters and emails coming out from the FA
recently about Grassroots Clubs and the qualifications of coaches and managers so we thought we’d take the opportunity to update you on what has been going on within RTJFC.

On Friday 21st January, two representatives from the Birmingham County FA arrived at Kilsby Lane to conduct a spot check on Rugby Town JFC and Rugby Town GFC (Girls Football Club) - it’s mainly the Girls who train on a Friday night. As well as asking some of the coaches present for
their names and details, they checked over our records of our Junior Football Club coaches.

We were able to show them our database of all volunteers associated with Rugby Town JFC and we were able to show them that each and every one of the 110 volunteers listed has a valid CRB check which allows them to “instruct” players representing the Club. This is mandatory
before anyone can cross over that white line from being a parent to assisting with the running of a junior football team.

Each team has at least one fully qualified coach associated with it. This means they hold at least an FA Level One coaching course and a valid Emergency Aid course and a valid Safeguarding Children course. To be valid it must have been completed within the last three years. The vast
majority of our Assistants are also similarly qualified and it is our aim that every volunteer - Assistant or "Helper" - should attend an Emergency Aid and Safeguarding Children course (for obvious reasons). We will be aiming to push this forward over the next season or so.

A lot of effort goes into maintaining our volunteer database and making sure that coaches remain qualified. For example: There is an Emergency Aid course scheduled for May to allow 11 coaches to renew that course before it expires for them.

Rugby Town JFC is a Charter Standard Community Club and having all this In place is a must if we are to retain that Charter Standard. Volunteers are being recruited to look after next season’s U7 teams and they are currently going through the CRB process - our volunteer list is continually changing.

In summary: RTJFC have passed their recent annual FA Health check. The BCFA were happy with what they saw on their visit and we have received no negative feedback. We certainly are not one of the small number of Clubs across the country that have been suspended

As a parent, we hope this shows you that we are doing everything we can to make sure that your child can play football in a safe, supportive and secure environment. Please feel free to challenge your coaches or ask questions of the Club if you are unsure about anything
you’ve read here or elsewhere.
Lastly we would like to thank all the people involved in this massive administration challenge and to the coaches and managers who have supplied the information when required.
